James Dawson Landscape

Brighton Residence

This achitect designed contemporary family home located on corner block and fronting a busy main road required a landscape that embedded itself into the street corner and styled itself in the same genre of the building's architecture. Angular perimeter planting beds extend across the footpath and into the nature strip, giving the passerby a feeling of moving through a garden.

Situated to the front is a sunken private courtyard that offers a quiet retreat that connects itself to the more formal internal rooms of the home. Although the rear garden is simple and intimate, a design was implemented to allow the garden space to be reconfigured to make use of the open double carport for entertaining. Rarely called a feature, the BBQ has been embedded into a simple yet bold concrete form that embraces the building.

Architect: Steve Domoney Architecture.
