James Dawson Landscape

The Strand, Williamstown

This group of two contemporary townhouses is situated on a seafront facing irregular shaped block.

Although the space for landscape was small and functional requirements minimal, a sensitive approach to it's design was required to ensure that the landscape created a synergy with the building and harmonised with the surrounding streetscape.

Playing with a seaside theme, mounds were created that gave the notion of upturned boats. Salt tolerant plant species were at the forefront and aggregate used as the predominate ground cover.

The result was a whimsical garden that offers a high level of visual stimulation to the residents as well as the passersby.
